This megachurch created a media department just for the Hispanic ministry to manage their audio/video needs, graphic design requirements, and social media management. This was a place that I was uniquely suited to serve in that I am skilled technically, a bonafide designer, and I’m completely fluent in both Spanish and English. This has made it easy to adapt to the needs of this ministry because they’re no longer trying to manage web design and social media with a team that doesn’t speak Spanish.
Projects:
In order to mirror the English-speaking site, each of the Hispanic Ministry’s site pages has to be manually translated, because Google Translate doesn’t always do a good job with colloquialisms, masculine-feminine pronouns, or giving users a choice between familiar vs. formal pronouns. It’s important for someone who actually speaks the language to catch mistakes and correct them in the translation of the pages. So I am responsible for translating the text correctly and going into the code to change the text strings from English to Spanish.
As Social Media Manager, I’m responsible for keeping the Hispanic Ministry’s social media up to date. I design event posts, manage the events calendar, upload daily devotionals to Facebook and YouTube, and subtitle the devotionals in Spanish for the hard of hearing. I also provide analytics reports to the staff so we can gauge how well the ministry is connecting with the community.
I recorded voice over narration in Spanish for video spots, as well as intro and outro recordings for the church’s podcasts.
One of my duties was to manage graphic, photographic, audio and video assets for the Hispanic Ministry team. I organized all the assets using Google Office and arranged permissions for them to be shared with the team as needed.
