Contract Instructor

Pearson Publishing

3500 Depauw Blvd
Indianapolis, IN 46268

This assignment was particularly enjoyable because Pearson publishes America’s textbooks. It also is one of the leading publishers of software user manuals. So teaching these designers was a real treat, because I was learning about how such books are written, designed and published at the same time I was teaching them how to use publishing software. This was absolutely one of my favorite clients!

Duties & Responsibilities

I was invited to teach Acrobat development to Pearson as they began to expand into online book publishing. Amazon’s Kindle was doing really well with it and it was decided that they needed to start producing interactive, online versions of their books. Their desire to go with Acrobat grew more important when they realized that they could send PostScript files to the printer for four-color separation, greatly simplifying their printing process, as well as reducing costs. So I was bought in to teach them how to prepare their InDesign files for export to Acrobat with interactive tables of contents, indices and glossaries already built in.

The second part of my assignment was to teach them how to batch process hundreds or even thousands of files at one time to prep them for four-color separation at the printer with all the right color profiles built in.
